At Bryce E. Justesen, DDS, we love the holiday time of year: joyful festivities, bright decorations and time together with family are a few of our favorite things. However, the holiday season can be a damaging time for your teeth what with the candies and sweets we tend to enjoy. If you are wary, you can defend your teeth by selecting which treats to enjoy and which to avoid. Here’s a small bit of extra data for you on which foods to eat.
If you have a single rule to keep for your dental health at this time of year, we’d recommend that you forego sticky foods. Sticky foods, as you might probably guess, stick to your teeth and become grounds for bacteria to decay the protective layers of your teeth, eventually developing cavities. Foods like dried cranberries, gumdrops and jelly beans are some of the worst offenders. Do everything in your power to pass on these foods and your teeth will be healthier; if you must eat them, be sure to brush and floss your teeth thoroughly afterward to eliminate any leftover foods.
