When you think of the dental office, do you think of patients screaming as the dentist works on their teeth? If so, there’s no need to be dramatic. At our office, we do everything we can to make every patient as comfortable as possible, and we are delighted to do so with the help of nitrous oxide!

Nitrous oxide is a dental sedative that is also known as laughing gas. This sedative is mixed with oxygen and it is inhaled through the nose. When you are ready for your treatment, your dentist will place a small mask over your nose and will ask you to deeply inhale for a few minutes. As time passes, you will feel more relaxed and comfortable in the hands of the dentist.

Throughout your treatment, the laughing gas will make you feel tingly and light headed. It might also make your arms and legs feel heavy. Laughing gas is known to make you feel calm and relaxed in the dental chair, but it won’t make you sleep. You will remain awake throughout your appointment and you will be able to understand and communicate with the dentist and dental team. When your treatment is completed, your dentist will remove the mask and the effects will quickly wear off—fast enough to let you drive yourself home after the appointment.

Call our office today if you want to learn more about nitrous oxide and other dental sedatives. We look forward to helping you enjoy your trips to the dental office!
